Department of Education

The Department of Education is an agency which was created in Congress in 1979 and given a number of responsibilities. It provides funding to school districts through the Title I and IDEA programs, manages college financial aid and federal student loans, collects data on colleges and college students, and tracks student achievement in K-12 schools(1).
